One big experiment in shapes and colors.

Ahoy Matey! was made as an experiment in color and shapes using Adobe Illustrator. I wanted to pay attention to shapes, negative space, and the combinations of colors when working on this project and feel I've done a good job of representing that in the 2 compositions.

The beauty of the Spanish skull design is that it's so intricate, shapes building up on shapes, and colors contrasting in the negative and positive spaces. Ultimately though those complex shapes and spaces are fairly simple at their core, it's when built up and combined that they become impressive. As if the experimentation with the shapes and colors wasn't enough, I wanted to explore completely different color palettes and see what type of feeling those gave the composition. The vibe I get from the aqua/salmon skull vs the purple/yellow skull are completely different and I like that I was able to achieve that with these illustrations.
